Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Vientiane

Day 1: Arrival Luang Prabang

Welcome you to Luang Prabang – Laos! you will be met and welcome by guide before transfer to your hotel. Check in hotel on arrival, then free to explore around charming ancient town on your own.

Day 2: Luang Prabang – Kuang Si Waterfall

After breakfast at hotel, in the morning we take a guided tour to visit the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roof sweeping low to the ground, representing the classical architecture of Luang Prabang temples. We visit to the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artefacts and Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures. We drive to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfall where you can splash around in the turquoise pools or walk along the forest paths (on the way, we visit villages of different minorities Laotian ETHNIC IDENTIFICATION (Ban Quay, Ban Ou).  There’s also an opportunity to visit the bear sanctuary nearby, run by Free The Bears Fund Inc.

From there we will climb to the top of Mount Phousi to explore the sacred gilded stupa and to enjoy the panoramic view of the city and the sun setting over the Mekong River. Decanting the mountain your will find yourself in the midst of the famous Luang Prabang Night Market, where you can find a unique selection of handmade textiles and handicrafts locally made by both ethnic Lao and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.

Day 3: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Cave

We will embark upon a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which also gives us a beautiful view of the tranquil countryside, as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious of Pak Ou Caves, crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. On the way, we visit Ban Xang Hai as a local rice wine making village. On return, we take a short drive to Ban Phanom, well known for its hand weaving and Ban Xang Kong.

Day 4: Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng by train

After breakfast at hotel, you are free and relax before packing your luggage and check out

10:30 transfer to train station

11:48 leaving by train to Vang Vieng

12:40 we arrive at Vang Vieng

We arrive in Vang Vieng, a small town, which is nestled on a bend of the Nam Song River. Its stunning scenery with a mixture of quiet river waters and limestone outcrops remains unspoiled, despite recent developments with the advent of tourism.  In late afternoon, we take a long tail boat ride (2-3 people per boat) along Nam Song River. Overnight in Vang Vieng.

Day 5: Vang Vieng – Vientiane by train

After breakfast this morning we head out on Tuk Tuk or van to explore more of the limestone cliffs, caves and valleys surrounding the town. We will visit the Tham Jang cave, which was used by the local people as a refuge from Chinese invaders 200 years ago. We will also visit ethnic Tai Deang and the Souay hill tribe villages. The hill tribe people are unfailingly friendly, welcoming you with waving hands and smiling faces. 

14:00 transfer to train station

15:05 leaving by train to Vientiane

17:00 we arrive at Vientiane and check in at hotel, the rest of the day will be free at leisure

Day 6: Vientiane – city tour

we explore Vientiane capital by visiting the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. . En route to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, you will have the opportunity to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.

In the afternoon we transfer out to see Buddha Park, an enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow, close to the Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his ideas about the universe.

Day 7: Vientiane – Departure

You are free until our driver meets you and take you to the airport for the flight back home. Your tour finishes with full of memories. Hope to see you again!

COSTS: US$620/person for group from 3 people

Costs are $ US NET 3% surcharge if pay by credit card. Other surcharges might be applied such as Tet holidays.

ORGANISATION

Tour guide: English speaking guide only day activity.

Vans: Private minivan for airport transfer/pickup, truck for pickup and transfer for trekking tour.

Hotel: We use standard 3star standard hotels with twin shared room. Upgrade is available on request. Except one night at homestay.

Meals: Laos foods. If you have any allergies, special requests or if you are on a special diet please let us know. We will arrange it for you in advance.

Seasonal Preparation: Best time to travel is dried season from November to May, but raining season (June to October) can make this trek via some streams difficult, check with our travel consultant for more details before booking.

What to bring: Passport, warm clothes, change of clothes to get wet, sun-glasses & hat, toiletries, towel, sun-block, insect repellent, flashlights, proper trekking shoes to get wet, personal first aid kit & medicines, small VND notes for buying drinks. If you feel the need then cable lock for your bags is recommended.

Experience: This trekking is at intermediate level and you should be prepared for it. Nevertheless, our guide will be flexible to suggest you the most proper trekking route adapted to your physical fitness.

Time: The trekking & cycling time is approximate and depends on the weather and the walking speed.
